PENGUIN project’s innovations spotlighted at prestigious EU ‘New Wood’ exhibition

The PENGUIN project was recently featured as a leading example of bio-based innovation at the influential “New Wood” exhibition, held at the European Commission’s Berlaymont building. The project’s inclusion highlighted its significant contribution to Europe’s green transition and its role in advancing a circular bioeconomy.

The exhibition, which ran from May 26 to June 6, was opened by high-level officials, including EU Commissioner for Environment, Jessika Roswall, EU Commissioner for Agriculture, Christophe Hansen, and Finland’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Sari Essayah. Their presence underscored the political importance of the innovations on display.

PENGUIN was selected as one of over 30 pioneering wood-based solutions from Finland, a country at the forefront of the bioeconomy. The project’s feature demonstrated how its advanced cellulose-based materials provide a tangible pathway towards a more sustainable, circular economy on a European scale.

By showcasing practical applications of its technology, the PENGUIN project successfully illustrated how renewable, wood-based resources can be transformed into value-added products that support the EU’s strategic environmental and industrial goals. The prominent display at the heart of the EU has solidified the PENGUIN project’s status as a key contributor to a greener, more resilient Europe.
